RepRisk, in partnership with UN Environment’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance Initiative (PSI), is pleased to present:

Webinar: ESG integration in the insurance industry

November 19, 2018

First webinar: 8:00-9:30am GMT

Second webinar: 2:00-3:30pm GMT

Sustainable insurance is defined under the UN Principles for Sustainable Insurance as a strategic approach where all activities in the insurance value chain, including interactions with stakeholders, are done in a responsible and forward-looking way by identifying, assessing, managing and monitoring risks and opportunities associated with environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Sustainable insurance aims to reduce risk, develop innovative solutions, improve business performance, and contribute to environmental, social and economic sustainability.

In this context, insurers need to manage ESG issues in both their insurance and investment activities.

This webinar is an excellent opportunity for professionals in the insurance and investment communities and key stakeholders to:

  • Learn from leading global insurers about their approaches to integrating ESG issues into their core insurance and investment activities
  • Find out how data science can support the management of ESG risks
  • Hear about the PSI’s ongoing efforts to develop global ESG guidance and various PSI collaborative initiatives that tackle specific ESG issues

Butch Bacani

UN Environment’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance Initiative (PSI)

Butch Bacani leads UN Environment’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance Initiative (PSI), the largest collaborative initiative between the UN and the insurance industry. Endorsed by the UN Secretary-General and insurance industry CEOs, the PSI serves as a global framework for the insurance industry to address environmental, social and governance issues as risk managers, insurers and investors—and a global initiative to strengthen the industry’s contribution to building resilient, inclusive and sustainable communities and economies.

Butch leads PSI activities supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Paris Agreement on Climate Change, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, and Financial Stability Board’s climate risk disclosure recommendations. He forged the largest collaboration between the insurance industry and cities and the PSI’s partnership with the world’s microinsurance community, and co-led the creation of UN Environment’s Sustainable Insurance Forum for regulators. Butch is involved in the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Resilience Initiative, G7 and G20-backed InsuResilience Global Partnership, Vulnerable 20 Group of Finance Ministers, and Sustainable Blue Economy Finance Initiative.

Butch led the global process that created the PSI in 2012 and UN Environment’s insurance and investment programmes from 2006 to 2010, including activities with the Principles for Responsible Investment. He has shaped global insurance industry commitments to address climate change, disaster risks, tobacco risks and illegal fishing, and to protect World Heritage Sites; and has authored pioneering studies on sustainable insurance and responsible investment.
